Possible Signs of a Learning Problem
- Overly sensitive to touch, movement, sights, and sounds
- Under reactive to sensory stimulation
- Activity level high/low
- Coordination problems
- Poor organization of behavior
- Delays in acquiring skills in one or more areas of development such as:
- Any loss of speech, babbling or social skills at any age
- No babbling by 12 months
- No words by 16 months
- Inadequate social skills
- No back and forth sharing of sounds, smiles, or facial expressions by 9 months
- No back and forth gestures, such as pointing, reaching, or waving by 12 months
Note: Parents, siblings, and other family members are deeply affected by the time, attention, and patience required by a child with a learning or developmental issue. Parent support groups are offered.
